EWSNEWS – August 2018

The story so far …

Saturday 28 July. Conducted walk  – hidden gardens of the Royal Mile.

Oh my goodness, what a lovely afternoon we had.  The weather was really kind, our guide was brilliant, and each garden was full of historical interest and quiet beauty. We went on to have tea in “The Fig Tree” café to round off the day – and then the rain came on as we made our way home.

Forthcoming events:

Friday 7 September. Croeso supper party at Mortonhall Golf club. 7.30pm

Our “Croeso” opening meeting with turns and entertainments, a finger buffet, and plenty of time to chat, will be held at the Mortonhall Golf Club. This will cost £12 a head. I need numbers as soon as possible please, but definitely by Saturday 1 September: please email me at moc.liamgnull@dccswe or phone 0131 335 3161.

If you would like to come but need a lift, please contact me or any Committee member. We are here to help.

Sunday 7 October. Harvest thanksgiving service. Reid large hall at 3.00pm.

We meet as usual in the large hall of the Reid Memorial Church, West Saville Terrace, EH9 3HY. Our traditional Harvest Festival will be followed by chat around the tea trolley.  Donations of tinned and dried goods are very welcome and will be taken to the local food bank.

A reminder of other events of interest:

Society news

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Tegid Davies died peacefully on the morning of 25 August. Tegid was a lovely man, and a faithful member of the society for many decades.  When Keith and I first joined in the 1970s Tegid was a committee member and brought to the committee his deep love of Wales, and a delicious sense of fun. Ill health has prevented him from attending meetings recently, and he has been missed, particularly at our services.

Our love and deepest sympathy go to Mary and the  family.

I look forward everso much to seeing you soon.

Jennifer
