The story so far:

Saturday 3 August. Visit to Cockenzie and Port Seton

I regret I missed this outing, so have asked Huw John to report on its success …

“Thirteen members attended Cockenzie House and several, despite having driven by for many years, were surprised to find such an attraction behind its high walls.

“Some arrived too late to fully appreciate the numerous stalls spread over two walled gardens and an extension offering a wide variety of items and were keen to return independently (next markets 7 September, 5 October).

“Some members visited the new museum and salt panning demonstration.

“The weather was very good particularly for the bracing walk along the John Muir way to the Sea Glass restaurant where the food was enjoyed.”

Thank you, Lilian and Huw: a grand start to our year.

Forthcoming events:

Friday 20 September. Croeso supper party at Mortonhall Golf Club at 7.30pm

Our opening social offers the usual buffet supper, a chance to catch up after the summer, entertainments and of course a singsong led by Huw Thomas to round off the evening.  The cost will be £20 per person, and the golf club requires numbers in advance, so whether you choose to pay by bank transfer or cheque, please let me know by email or phone by Saturday 14 September. For payment and contact details, please see above.

Sunday 27 October. Harvest Thanksgiving Service in the large hall at Reid Memorial Church at 3.00pm

Our Harvest service will be an opportunity to give thanks, with hymns and readings, and to contribute to the local food bank, for which donations of tinned and dry goods (and toiletries such as toothpaste) are invited. The service will be followed by a chance to chat around the tea trolley.

I look forward to seeing you very soon.
