EWSNEWS – October 2018

The story so far …

Sunday 7 October. Harvest thanksgiving service. Reid large hall at 3.00pm.

A good turn-out, a very lovely service, and a table heaped with donations for the local food bank. Many thanks to everyone who contributed, especially Margaret and Chris Brandie and Huw Thomas for the service and Lilian John for the bara brith.

Forthcoming events:

Sunday 11 November. Remembrance Sunday.
Reid large hall at 3.00pm.

Your President and committee have been busy planning an hour of poetry and song, with members’ reminiscences and a display of artefacts and photographs, as we pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of so many of our countrymen in the Great War and subsequent conflicts. If you have any suitable items or relevant stories we would really love to hear from you. Please let one of the committee know by the end of October if you have anything to contribute to our display and/or a (small) contribution of home baking for our refreshments which will bring the afternoon to a close. Bring friends and neighbours too — we welcome all.

Friday 30 November. St Andrew’s Day supper party.
Priestfield Church Hall at 7.30 pm.

We like to remember the Patron Saint of our host nation with traditional entertainment, including a delicious supper of haggis, neeps and tatties, followed by cranachan and served with elderflower cordial, tea and coffee. (Please bring a bottle if you fancy something stronger!) We are keeping the cost to £14 each, preferably by cheque made payable to Edinburgh Welsh Society or Cymdeithas Cymry Dineidyn. The caterers need numbers in good time, so please, please RSVP to me by phone 0131 335 3161, or email moc.liamgnull@dccswe with numbers before 19 November if at all possible. We meet at Priestfield Church Hall, 2 Marchhall Place, EH16 5HW.

Sunday 9 December. Christmas celebrations.
Reid large hall. From 3 pm.

Full details in my next EWSNEWS but please put the date in your diary.
