EWSNEWS December 2023

The story so far:

Thursday 9 November. Illustrated talk via Zoom. 7.30pm.

A screenful of familiar faces and two new members joined our zoom meeting. David and Alison gave us a memorable talk on their trip around the stunningly beautiful islands of New Zealand. The views were awesome. The glimpse of the sea crossing was awful. Thanks to both for sharing their memories, and to Chris Brandie who helped with the technical stuff.

Friday 24 November. St Andrew’s Night supper party at Priestfield Church hall. 7.30pm.

Twenty one members tucked in to generous portions of haggis, neeps, and tatties with whisky sauce. This was followed by cranachan, and for those who still had a corner, shortbread biscuits, and tea or coffee. Many thanks to Lilian and Huw John who organised the venue and menu. Hywel and Pamela Williams treated us to an excellent “true or false” quiz and thoughtfully provided tie-breakers to establish a winning team. Huw and Janet Thomas rounded off the evening beautifully, Huw leading community singing, and thanks to clever research by Janet, some songs created by AI. The robots haven’t really cracked it – yet …

Forthcoming events:

Sunday 10 December. Carol service at the Reid Memorial Church. 3.00pm.

Our Christmas service of carols and lessons will be held in the Reid Memorial Church large hall, West Savile Terrace, EH9 3HY, and will be followed by a vestry tea. It would be enormously helpful to have an idea of who plans to come, and if you are able to bring a small contribution of food for the tea, an indication please of sweet, savoury or both so we have a tasty spread. Please get in touch with me before the Sunday, preferably by email to gro.yteicoshslewhgrubnidenull@yraterces.

Sunday 21 January 2024. Eisteddfod at the Reid Memorial Church. 3.00pm.

We are hoping to organise an afternoon of competitions for all. This will include various cooking and baking entries, which will be judged and then served up for tea with a cuppa. Full details of all the events to follow in my next EWSNEWS.

I look forward to seeing you very soon.
