Fringe items for your diaries …

Mark Drakeford, First Minister of the Welsh Assembly, is being interviewed by Iain Dale and his partner in crime, former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, in one of five live versions of their smash-hit political podcast For the Many at the Pleasance at 3:00pm on 10 August. Book at this link.
Our member Nigel Lindsay writes: I am producing a show which might be of interest to EWS members. I’d welcome publicity for it. It would be lovely to see Welsh Society people there.
“Caledonia”, a star-studded celebration of Sir Walter Scott in words and music is being held as part of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This event will see Brian Taylor (former BBC political correspondent) and Alasdair Hutton (the “Voice of the Tattoo”) read short prose selections from Scott’s work. These focus on resilience in the face of adversity, and have been chosen from texts suggested by Professor Alison Lumsden of the Walter Scott Research Centre at the University of Aberdeen, and Trustee of The Abbotsford Scott.
The Signet Singers, a specially-selected group of singers from choirs around Edinburgh, will sing new choral settings of verses by Scott. These short pieces, by Edinburgh composer Nigel Don, were made to celebrate Scott’s 250th anniversary. The Signet Singers will be conducted by Stephen Doughty, who is Chorus Director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
There will only be one performance of this special celebration. It will be held at 3.00pm on Tuesday 8 August, in St Vincent’s Chapel, Stockbridge (Fringe venue 197) and will last approximately an hour and a quarter. Book at this link.
