EWSNEWS – September 2016

The story so far…

Saturday 3 September – Borders train trip plus visit to Abbotsford House

What can I say! The train was on time. The bus was waiting at the station and delivered us right to the car park of Abbotsford House. Our tables were laid ready for lunch. Our guide was called Owen and is half Welsh, but fluent in French and German and absolutely delightful. The threatened rain didn’t amount to much more than a few spots, and 16 members and 2 guests had a splendid day out. Huge thanks to Lilian for putting it all together.

Forthcoming events:

Friday 23 September – Croeso at the Merchants Golf Club  7.30 pm

The usual autumnal fare to start the session with a warm welcome. We plan a buffet supper, quiz and party turns, and plenty of time to chat. Please note the new venue.  There is a car park at the foot of the hill off Glenlockhart Road, or street parking around Morningside Grove for those who wish to avoid the slope up to the clubhouse.

There will be a £10 charge each for the supper by cheque please, payable to Edinburgh Welsh Society or Cymdeithas Cymry Dineidyn. We need numbers so please let me know ASAP, but before Saturday 17 September at the latest. Phone 0131 335 3161 or e-mail moc.liamgnull@dccswe.

Please note, I intend handing out your programme cards at this meeting to save on the astronomic cost of posting.

Saturday 1 October – Concert by the modern choir from Llanelli (The Philharmonics) Reid Memorial Church large hall, West Saville Terrace  7.00pm

It would be wonderful to have as many members and friends as possible join us for this exciting evening.  Donations from our members towards a vestry supper would be much appreciated.  Please let me know if you are able to provide something tasty.

Sunday, 9 October – Harvest Service at 3.00pm

Our service of Harvest Thanksgiving will be held in the Reid Memorial Church large hall (West Saville Terrace) and any donations of groceries will be gratefully received by the Church and used in their local food bank.  Tea and welsh cakes will be served after the service.

Edinburgh Welsh Society website

I am delighted to report that the website is now up and running again thanks to the invaluable services of Martin Tarr. Please go on line and check it out. There is still work to do on the Welsh version of some pages but it will get bigger and better over time.
