EWSNEWS – April 2019

The story so far …

Friday 1 March.  Cinio Gwyl Dewi.
Mortonhall Golf Club.  7.00 for 7.30pm.

Our dinner this year was delightful. It was a real treat to have Ann and Daniel’s company.  A roomful of members enjoyed the food and the chance to hear Ann bring us up to date on life in Nevin before directing our thoughts to our patron saint. We rounded off the evening in the best possible way with Jim Hughes, Huw Thomas and Wyn Davies leading the community singing. More details and photos at this link.

Sunday 3 March. Gymanfa Ganu.
Reid Memorial Church, large hall. 3.00pm.

We came, we sang and we chatted round the tea trolley. Huge thanks to Huw and Janet Thomas for putting together a programme of favourite hymns with well-researched and beautifully-presented facts about the composers of words and music. A perfect way to round off the year. More details and photos at this link.

Forthcoming event

Thursday 25 April. Annual General Meeting.
Reid Memorial Church, small hall. 7.30pm.

As usual we take this opportunity to think back over the highs and lows of the past session and look forward to the next. I hope it will be a year of preparation and anticipation because the 2020–21 session marks the centenary of our Society. Please come with your suggestions for talks, walks and entertainments for this year and next. We really need your thoughts! Refreshments and chat after the meeting as always.

Society news

It is with great sadness that I tell you that Arthur Phillips passed away on 3 March.  His funeral on 22 March was very well attended with mourners representing all the many facets of Arthur’s long and interesting life, including a number of members of the EWS. Arthur was a lovely man, and it was a real privilege to have known him. Our love and deepest sympathies are sent to Jean and the family.

I look forward everso much to seeing you soon.
