EWSNEWS – June 2017
The story so far…
Thursday 20 April. Annual General Meeting at the Reid small hall at 7.30pm.
18 members attended a lively meeting. We were delighted to welcome two new members and hope to see much more of them. We had plenty of good ideas for events in the coming session and the committee have just met to start planning …
Forthcoming events:
Saturday 24 June. Trip to Dunfermline.
We have arranged a day out in Dunfermline, starting with a train ride across the Forth, with a chance to see how the bridges look now. Lunch at Ciao Italia (highly recommended) and then a walking tour around historic Dunfermline led by Jack Pryde. The train leaves Waverley at 10.47 am, Dalmeny at 11.04 am and arrives in Dunfermline at 11.20 am. A short walk to Ciao Italia, 13 Nethertown Broad Street, where we have a table booked for 12 noon. Our guide will meet us at the restaurant at 1.30pm and the tour will take approximately 90 minutes at £10 a head, payable on the day.
Alternatively, for those preferring to travel by car, there is a car park immediately behind the railway station – but please be aware, it is Gala Day and Dunfermline will be busy, colourful and full of bunting! For those who fancy the walk but not the meal, please meet us at 1.30pm outside the restaurant.
I need numbers as soon as you possibly can please. Please email me at ewsccd@gmail.com, letting me know how many for lunch and/or walking tour. Closing date: Monday 19 June.
Saturday 22 July. Visit to Gilmerton Cove.
We propose an expedition to explore the mysterious, hand-carved tunnels and caverns of Gilmerton Cove (16 Drum St, Edinburgh EH17 8QH). The hour long tour starts at 3.00 pm. Admission, payable on the day: Adults £7.50, Concessions £6.50, Children aged 5–16 £4.00. We need numbers in plenty of time, please. It will be possible to park in the Lidl car park just across the road.
Following the tour we plan to have a meal in the Northfield House Hotel, (115 Lasswade Rd, Edinburgh EH16 6UD). As above, please email me at ewsccd@gmail.com, letting me know how many for visit and/or high tea. Closing date: Monday 17 July.
