Vron in Edinburgh

There’s a rare chance to hear the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir in Edinburgh coming very soon! The Fron are singing at 7.30pm next Monday (28 October) at the CCE King’s Hall, 41a South Clerk Street, Edinburgh EH8 9NZ.

You’ll know all about the choir anyway – for example, Male Voice Champions at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in 2018 – but there’s more at this link. Or short-circuit the process, and go straight to this link for your tickets – the choir would love to have one or two of you in the audience.

Sad news: Keith Welsher

Our President writes:

It is with great sadness that I am letting you know that Keith Welsher passed away on Thursday after a short illness. He passed away peacefully with Jennifer and their daughters at his side. Keith had been a member of the Society for many years and in that time he had served as a committee member and was the current Honorary Treasurer; he had given stalwart service to the Society over a long period of time. He will be missed. I am sure that you will join me in passing on our sympathies and condolences to Jennifer and the family at this sad time.

Details of the funeral will be circulated when they are known; but it is unlikely to be in the next week or 10 days.

Cantorion Gogledd Cymru concert

We’ve been asked to give you early warning that the Cantorion Gogledd Cymru Male Voice Choir will be appearing on stage at the Gardyne Theatre Dundee at 7.30pm on 28 February 2020. You can get details of the concert and book on-line at theatre’s web site and details about the Choir are at this link.

George Lander adds: “Of the 40 members travelling, 33 are Welsh speakers. If you could make it to the concert it would be great to have members of the audience with Welsh connections and you could even practice your Welsh with us.”

An opportunity to learn Welsh

The University of Edinburgh offer Welsh courses both for complete beginners and basic users of the language. The first of these runs throughout the autumn semester, from 6.30–8.20pm on Mondays, starting on 30 September. For this you need to have enrolled by 22 September. More details at this link.

The course tutor is Charles Wilson. Gogs please note that the course book (Elin Meek’s Cwrs Mynediad) is the South Wales version.
