Opening Evening

Friday 23 September 2011

The Edinburgh Welsh Society’s new season of activities started very successfully with the Opening Evening in the Tusitala. It was good to see everyone again after the summer holidays.

We looked back at each of the decades since the Society was founded through the memories of members, pictures and poetry. Do you remember the Queen’s Coronation, the first man on the moon, the release of Nelson Mandela, the eisteddfods, the cymanfas and the fun? The time has really gone past quickly!

After a tasty supper and the chance to chat to friends old and new, the traditional annual quiz tested the competitors’ knowledge in different areas, not totally seriously, but with a strong sense of competition.

Everyone spoke about the importance of the Society in their lives and the warm welcome and friendship they had found there. It is good to think that the Edinburgh Welsh Society has been in existence for nearly a hundred years now, offering friendship, an extended family and fun to everyone in Scotland’s capital and beyond who has an interest in Wales.
