St David’s Day dinner postponed
Mortonhall Golf Club are unable to clear the snow from their car park, so tomorrow’s St David’s Day dinner is a casualty of “the Beast from the East”, and has had to be postponed to a date to be agreed. Any queries, please contact Jennifer Welsher on 0131 335 3161 or at ewsccd@gmail.com.
Book now for St David’s Day dinner!
The postponed St David’s Day dinner will be held at 7.00 for 7.30pm on Friday 20 April at Mortonhall Golf Club, 231 Braid Rd, Edinburgh EH10 6PB (note change of venue). We are delighted that our Gwr Gwadd will be John Evans. John has been a member of our Society on and off for some time; but for those who have not had the pleasure of meeting him he is rugby-loving, rugby-refereeing, and Welsh-speaking. He was born in Aberystwyth and grew up in Aberteifi but has lived in Scotland for many years.
The cost has been held to £25 a head and we need numbers and menu choices by Saturday 14 April please. As ever, for catered events such as this it is crucial that we get numbers in good time. By the way, if possible, it would be ever so helpful for us to have a list of those definitely not coming. Contact us at ewsccd@gmail.com, or phone Jennifer Welsher on 0131 335 3161.
And do please let us know if you need a lift, or can you offer a lift …
The menu choices are:
Cawl made with lamb stock or vegetable stock *
Smoked salmon patė with oatcakes
Melon served with orange sorbet
Roast lamb with mint sauce
Mediterranean cod
Vegetable bake
each served with seasonal vegetables and roast and dauphinoise potatoes
Peach and plum crumble with either custard or ice cream *
Fresh fruit salad with either ice cream or cream *
Cheese plate with biscuits
Tea or coffee with mints
* Please indicate your preference if choosing these items on the menu. It will help the caterers no end.

“Join us as we trade one Celtic Capital for another! Affinity Female Voice Choir, the largest female-only choir in South Wales, is bringing a concert packed full of the best songs from their repertoire over the last 5 years. With show hits from Les Miserables, Cats and Hairspray, beautiful choral favourites by John Rutter and Eric Whitacre and of course, some of the fabulous songs of both our great countries, we’re sure there’s something for everyone in this afternoon delight. S4C funding petition
Clifford Evans has asked us to publicise a petition on behalf of those who don’t live in Wales for S4C’s funding to be maintained:
“We, the undersigned, are all learning or have learned the Welsh language. We all live outside Wales, so are not counted in the audience figures for S4C, which we all want to watch. Some of us have real trouble doing that and are willing to pay a fee! We have heard there is a threat to reduce the channel’s budget … ”
The full text of the petition to the UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport is at this link, and there is a simple form through which you can make your views felt.
