EWSNEWS  September 2025

The story so far:

I am delighted to report that the family picnic was held on Saturday 30 August at Liberton Kirk halls and garden from 2.00–4.00pm. I met a lovely group of parents and youngsters and distributed programme cards. The EWS was represented by seven established members, plus three new members of our Society.

It has been suggested that we host a “return match” at our Christmas carol service and party in December, with another joint picnic organised in Liberton Kirk hall in the spring.

As a result of the picnic, four more people have signed up to receive EWSNEWS … Welcome to you all!

Forthcoming events:

Friday 19 September. Croeso. Mortonhall Golf Club, at 7.30pm.

I now need firm numbers earlier than previously announced, by this Friday 12 September … if you plan to come, and haven’t yet contacted me, please do it NOW!

As I mentioned in my August EWSNEWS, our opening social will be the usual buffet supper party, with plenty of chance to catch up with news and entertainment after supper. I plan to bring the map of the world and invite you to point out places you have visited, or plan to visit. The last time it was on display our members provided a host of fascinating anecdotes.

We meet in Mortonhall Golf Club, 231 Braid Road, EH10 6PB. The cost per person will be £20, payable in advance please. Please pay by cheque to Edinburgh Welsh Society, or by bank transfer – the bank details are:

Account name: Edinburgh Welsh Society
Account number 00299707
Sort code 80-02-77

Other reminders:

As was mentioned in our August EWSNEWS:

  • Anyone who can offer a lift or who requires a lift to meetings, please contact a member of the committee and we will do our best to help.
  • Hugh Richards is very keen to start up a Welsh Male Voice Choir and would love to hear from anyone interested. He has sussed out possible venues and an accompanist. If you would like to know more, please contact Hugh by email – hugh.richards3@btinternet.com.

In other news:

We’ve been asked to spread the word that Johns’ Boys Welsh Male Voice Choir (https://johnsboys.co.uk/) are currently touring the UK, and will be performing at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, at 7:00pm on Sunday 26 October. Please call for tickets at the box office: 0131 668 2019.

I look forward to seeing you very soon.
