The story so far:

Friday 28 November St Andrew’s Night supper. Priestfield Church hall, at 7.30pm

The supper of haggis, neeps and tatties was generous and tasty, and followed by tea and coffee with shortbread. The scran was followed by two teams playing “Kim’s game” featuring trays of 24 small items to be remembered. This ended in a draw. Then Pam Williams challenged us to solve a garment-based quiz, at which I confess I was flummoxed. We finished with community singing. David cleverly chose two Welsh and two Scottish songs.

Sunday 7 December Christmas celebrations. Reid Memorial Church large hall, at 3.00pm

Our Christmas service of carols and lessons commenced at 3 o’clock, with the adults taking part in a lovely service lead by Margaret Brandie, while the wee people worked together at a craft table, provided by Helen Campbell.

This was followed at about 4 o’clock by a party with sit-down tea, followed by games, and finally wee gifts for our youngest guests. Many thanks to everyone who brought donations for the tea.

Forthcoming events:

Tuesday 20 January 2026 Talk via Zoom at 7.30pm

Our President, David will be telling us about his drives to Ukraine, carrying humanitarian supplies for the people there. I can’t wait to hear all about it. I hope you will zoom in and join us. David suggests that before the evening you browse www.pickupsforpeace.co.uk, as it will give background and context.

The letter that was emailed direct to our contacts on 16 January gave the Zoom meeting joining details. If you haven’t received them, please hit this link to generate an email request!

Friday 6 February Italian supper. Priestfield Church hall at 7.30pm

A departure from our usual Chinese supper, following a suggestion at our 2025 AGM to vary the fare, we plan an Italian supper. Tea and coffee will be served but feel free to BYOB if you prefer anything stronger. The scran will be followed by entertainment and rounded off with community singing. We meet in the hall of Priestfield Church, 2 Marchhall Place, EH16 5HW.

The charge for the evening has been kept at £20 and I will need names by Monday 2 February at the very, very latest please. Payment as usual by cheque payable to Edinburgh Welsh Society, or by bank transfer.

Please remember that if you choose to pay by bank transfer I will still need to know you are coming. I look forward to hearing from you.

I look forward to seeing you very soon.
