EWSNEWS November 2025
The story so far:
Sunday 26 October Harvest Thanksgiving Service. Reid Memorial large hall, at 3.00pm
Twenty-two members turned up to take part in our Harvest Thanksgiving service, ably led by Margaret Brandie. Huw Thomas accompanied the hymn singing, and Huw and Lilian John provided the welcome cuppa and bara brith afterwards.
We have received a thank you card from the Newington Foodbank for the very generous Harvest donations.
Forthcoming events:
Friday 28 November St Andrew’s Night supper. Priestfield Church hall, at 7.30pm
We celebrate the saint’s day of our host nation in our traditional way, with a supper of haggis, neeps and tatties. We will be serving tea and coffee with shortbread, but feel free to BYOB if you prefer anything stronger. The scran will be followed by a few quizzy items and rounded off with community singing.
The charge for the evening has been kept at £20 and I will need names by Monday 24 November at the very, very latest please. Payment as usual by cheque payable to Edinburgh Welsh Society, or by bank transfer.
Please remember that if you choose to pay by bank transfer I will still need to know you are coming. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sunday 7 December Christmas celebrations. Reid Memorial Church large hall, at 3.00pm
Our Christmas service of carols and lessons will commence at 3 o’clock, to which all are welcome.
This will be followed at about 4 o’clock by a party with sit-down tea, followed by games, and finally wee gifts for our youngest guests. Small contributions of party food would be everso welcome, please.
Please note, I will need names and ages of all the wee people in good time.
Last August we were invited to a picnic in Liberton Kirk which was a delightful afternoon, and this is our invitation in return. Watch this space for the next picnic in Liberton in the Spring.
I look forward to seeing you very soon.
