The story so far:

POSTPONED – Sunday 21 January 2024. Eisteddfod at the Reid Memorial Church. 3.00pm.

It was with great regret that we had to postpone this meeting for the time being. We do hope to try again at a future date so watch this space.

Forthcoming events:

Friday 16 February. Chinese supper at Priestfield Church hall. 7.30pm.

Please book early for our Chinese banquet with entertainments in Priestfield Church hall, 2 Marchhall Place, EH16 5HW. A generous Chinese supper (please indicate if you prefer vegetarian) at £20 each, served with cordial, tea and coffee. Anyone wishing a wee glass of something aclofrolic is welcome to bring a bottle. It is the year of the Dragon so our two cultures are in harmony this year. I will need numbers by Tuesday 13 February at the latest please. Prompt payment please either by cheque made payable to the Edinburgh Welsh Society and posted to me or, if you prefer, by bank transfer. The bank details are: Account name: Edinburgh Welsh Society. Friday 1 March. Cinio Gwyl Dewi at Mortonhall Golf Club, 7 for 7.30pm.

You are invited to our annual St David’s Day dinner at Mortonhall Golf Club, at 231 Braid Rd, Edinburgh EH10 6PB. We are delighted to have as our guest speaker John Owain Jones. Owain hails from North wales and studied at St Andrews University. He was a Church of Scotland minister for many years. His final posting was in Bute. He retired last year and lives in the West of Scotland.

Menu choices:

Starter: either Cawl with crusty bread and butter ~ or ~ melon with sorbet

Main: either lamb ~ or ~ lemon sole ~ or ~ a vegetarian option ~~ all served with seasonal vegetables

Dessert: either fruit crumble with custard and ice cream ~ or ~ a selection of cheese and biscuits

The golf club chef is currently on leave so I am afraid I can’t provide a more detailed menu at the moment. I hope this is sufficiently tasty to be going on with. The charge will be £34 each, and both the Mortonhall caterers and I need names ASAP pleaseby Sunday 18 February. I realise this is well in advance of the date of the dinner, but the golf club are insisting, so please get in touch. Sunday 3 March. Gymanfa Ganu at the Reid Memorial Church at 3.00pm.

We continue to celebrate our patron saint with our hymn singing festival at the Reid Memorial Church large hall, West Savile Terrace, Edinburgh EH9 3HY. This will be followed by a very welcome cup of tea.
